THE ILLEGALS: As you may or may not be aware, we have a problem with “illegals” in this nation of ours. Each day communities are finding more and more of them – and thanks to areas where they do have good law and code enforcement, they are being weeded out. There have already been deaths attributed to the “Illegals” problem, too. “CHIEF BUBBA” 🙏Mark Richard Greatorex of Fayetteville, OH, went to be with the Lord after a battle with lung cancer on December 5, 2024, at the age of 56. I had the honor of working with Bubba on numerous incidents since 1995, when we first met. He was a big, strong sweetheart of a man. He passionately served in the fire service for 42 years. He started as a cadet on (what was then) the Loveland Fire Department, working his way through the ranks of several FD’s, ending his career as Fire and EMS Chief of Wayne Township Clermont County. He was a Paramedic, Fire Fighter 2, Fire, Live Fire and EMS Instructor, Fire Safety Inspector w/many other certifications. Mark also worked for Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home as their crematory manager. Chief Greatorex’s influence in the fire services will be remembered for generations throughout the Cincinnati area. Friends will be received on Thursday, Dec 12, from 5pm to 8pm at the Goshen Church of God, 1675 Hill Station Rd., Goshen, OH, 45122. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Dec 13, 2024, at 11am at Goshen Church of God. PEARL HARBOR DAY-REMEMBERING THE FIREFIGHTERS KILLED-AND ALL WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES. For those younger readers, today, “Pearl Harbor Day” remembers the attack on Pearl Harbor, which was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States at our naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on the morning of December 7, 1941. That day 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed, 2,402 personnel were killed, and 1,282 were wounded. We remember them all from “The Greatest Generation” who served along with all those who continue to serve today including the Honolulu FD and Hawaii’s Federal FD Firefighters. REMEMBERING THE FIREFIGHTERS KILLED & INJURED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AT PEARL HARBOR: As the Hickam Field firefighting apparatus was knocked out, Honolulu Fire companies responded to assist with the fires. At 0826 a Japanese aerial bomb was dropped on crews from HFD Engine Companies 1, 4, and 6. Three firefighters, Captain John Carreira, Captain Thomas S. Macy, and Hoseman Harry T.L. Pang were killed in the Line of Duty. An additional six were wounded from shrapnel. They were Honolulu Fire Lieutenant Fred Kealoha, Hoseman Moses Kalilikane, Hoseman John A. Gilman, Hoseman Solomon H. Naauao, Hoseman Patrick J. McCabe, and Hoseman George Correa. In 1944 they all were awarded the Order of the Purple Heart. 103 YEAR OLD MEMBER OF HIS FIRE BRIGADE! These days the centenarian spends more time in his garden than on the fireground, but he’s still ready to lend a hand. Australian Firefighter Harold Proud, 103, has lived in the town of Kulin, 270 kilometres south-east of Perth, all his life, half of which he has spent as a member of the local fire brigade. “I mostly attend the meetings … [but] I could put out a little fire,” he said. “If there’s a fire and I did get there, I’d be helping make the cups of tea … or bringing along the beers.” 😂🙏 However, Mr Proud said he owed his long life to staying active, volunteering and a healthy diet. “The two main things are activity, exercise and the right food, plain food — I don’t have sugar, salt or fat on my shopping list,” he said. 3 SHERIFFS DEPUTIES STRUCK & KILLED. A third Palm Beach County deputy involved in that devastating wreck last week has tragically passed away. Deputy Sheriff Ignacio “Dan” Diaz, Deputy Sheriff Ralph “Butch” Waller, and Corporal Luis Paez — all motorcycle deputies — were struck by a Jeep SUV on Nov. 21 while they were stopped on the shoulder of Southern Boulevard. 🟥⬜️🟦🟧***A REMINDER OF ROADWAY RISKS FOR ALL EMERGENCY SERVICE MEMBERS*** Deputy Sheriff Ralph Waller (left), Corporal Luis Paez (middle), and Deputy Ignacio Diaz (right). Waller and Paez were pronounced dead that same day, while Deputy Diaz was in critical condition for several days before passing away at approximately 12:45 p.m. today, Monday. There are no criminal charges against the Jeep driver at this time, adding that she was cooperative at the scene. It appears to be a tragic accident. As for traffic-related violations, the FHP’s Traffic Homicide Unit will determine if the woman committed any wrongdoing, like speeding or careless or reckless driving. PITTSBURGH BATTALION CHIEF LODD AT HOUSE FIRE. Pittsburgh (PA) Bureau of Fire Battalion Chief John Walsh has died in the Line of Duty after suffering a medical emergency while in command of a house fire. As shared by the Pittsburgh Firefighters Local 1, Battalion Chief 3, John Walsh, who worked out of the bureau’s Station #8 in East Liberty died after being taken to the hospital from a house fire scene along Wilkinsburg Avenue in the city’s East Hills neighborhood. The fire broke out just after 2100 hours, last night (Wednesday) and Chief Walsh suffered a medical emergency while in command of the scene. More details to follow.
