Brief clip from my recent Artist Talk @delartmuseum discussing skateboarding in NYC and photography from a late 80’s perspective. The full video is available, link in Bio Friday, December 20, 2024 marked a special evening as I had the honor of presenting an Artist Talk at Delaware Art Museum during their “A Jazz Before Christmas” DelArt Night. This talk was an exploration of the stories behind my current exhibition, “Hip Hop Moments Captured”, and an opportunity to delve deeper into my artistic journey. Moderated by Margaret Winslow, Delaware Art Museum’s esteemed Head Curator of Contemporary Art, the discussion touched on the evolution of my career—from capturing raw moments for Thrasher Magazine in the late ’80s, to shaping culture through editorial work at The Source in the ’90s. I also shared my approach to preserving these iconic moments through digitization, self-publishing my best-selling book “Rare & Unseen Moments of 90’s Hip Hop Collector’s Edition”, and curating my photography into museum-quality Fine Art prints. For collectors, this was a rare chance to engage with the artistry and archival process that turns fleeting moments into timeless investments. @delawarepublic ・・・ An exhibition at the @delartmuseum featuring iconic pictures from the 1990s New York City hip-hop scene closes in early January. During the 1990s, when soon-to-famous rappers like Tupac and Nas were making their names in New York City, T. Eric Monroe (@tdoteric) was an up and coming freelance photographer. He says back then, before the widespread influence of the internet and social media, artists spent more time on new releases. “They had time to really work on their craft and season their craft, and also because there was no social media when a picture got published in a magazine, it was many, many months later,” he says. “It gave me time to take a picture, meet people, be around the culture, without having to speed along.” Years later, Monroe dove into his archives and curated a collection of photos from that time, focusing on what he calls “unguarded moments.” Get the full story at the link in our bio! #DelawarePublicMedia #DelawareNews #netDE #arts #tdoteric #rareandunseenmoments #classichiphop #90shiphop 📷 courtesy of tdoteric.com: The work of photographer T.
