This 3rd baby is REALLY reaping the benefits of everything we’ve learned & worked for in the last several years 😅🥹 I did a phone interview yesterday with a writer from New York Magazine — she was asking us what we’ve learned since 2020 and how it’s shaped the life we’ve been creating here. Gosh, I didn’t even know where to START 😂 But food and health have been big ones. Back in the city, we *did* have access to a lot of organic, health food stores. In some ways it was *easier* to access healthy food! That is, until there were shortages and closures amid the pandemic, followed by the Texas power grid shutting down 🫠 When we moved out here, one of the “bummers” was only having a small Walmart. But what we gained was having actual farms and farmers to connect with! When Gus weaned off of breastmilk, we were lucky enough to have raw goat’s milk just 5 minutes up the road. How cool is that?! Not only do we have the local farms, but we have land that we’re slowly shaping into a homestead: planting fruit and nut trees, raising chickens and turkeys. Every year out here, we learn a little bit more & get a little bit better. Reflecting on our parenting, too, I can say the same thing: with each child, each passing year, we’ve gotten a little bit better. We’ve already seen a major comeback in 2024 when it comes to health and common sense values. 👌🏼 Just as I want to see food dyes and cereal out of our kids’ menus, I want to see JUNK out of our toy aisles. First and foremost: kids need *experiences* with the people they love. (Best Gift Ever) 🤎 But when we *do* provide them with physical toys they need to be something that supports their development—encourages creativity, movement, or better yet BOTH. THESE are the types of toys that should be winning awards! 🫠 Anything that makes noise at them, flashes, doesn’t encourage creativity, and overstimulates —is not ideal. “THANKFUL” hits a little (okay, a lot) different this year 😭🤎 Thank you all for your prayers and support this past year as our family both gained and lost sweet Fin. I’m almost out of words to say these days. I didn’t have the energy or foresight to plan a Thanksgiving meal…I simply forgot. And it’s not like me— I genuinely love planning and preparing for things. 😭 We did, however, take a drive to the Christmas Tree Farm to pick out our tree for the year. It was COLD but we packed a little picnic and snuggled up for a bit and just enjoyed the scenery. Fin’s ashes came with us. It’s our first holiday without him. Second, if we count Thom’s birthday. I didn’t expect it to get harder, but it does. It’s harder every day. For some reason, I thought it would be the opposite—I thought I would feel better with time. But, I don’t really. I almost hate to talk about this while most of you are enjoying your holidays with your families, but recently I’ve gotten several messages to the effect of: “thank you for sharing the way you’re grieving. It makes me feel less alone in mine.” And so for that, I’m sharing. If you’re reading this, take a REAL moment to thank God for your children. Even if they’re loud, even if they’re messy, even if they’re fighting. It’s so important for us to remember the good, focus on the blessings, and fully realize the gifts we’ve been given We’re learning this the hard way, but THANK GOODNESS not everyone has to. 🤎 Happy (belated) Thanksgiving, everyone! We love you — thank you so much for being here & supporting our family! Give yours a big hug for us!

Little milestones from last week ✨ -Recorded our 2nd episode in the podcast studio! 🙌🏼 Nick built the walls and this little design with recycled wood leftover from one of the Boy Scout buildings. I drew the little square / lines design on a piece of paper and he brought it to life! So happy with how it turned out, how awesome the wood tones look — and so grateful for the work he’s put into this! 🥰🤎 -Peanut harvest!! 🥜 I pulled the plants from the ground a few weeks ago and they’d been drying in our hallway ever since. The boys were feeling particularly antsy/directionless one afternoon so I gave them this project — and they RAN with it! They were calm, focused, and it seemed to be exactly the type of activity their minds and bodies needed 🥹🫶🏼 We mentioned this a little in the last podcast episode, too — how there’s something just SO healing about projects like this that come from the earth, from nature. We’re innately designed to do things like gardening and harvesting. Watching the boys shell these nuts and make their own peanut butter start-to-finish was incredible 😍🥜🤎 Have you ever thought of planting peanuts? 👇🏼
