Gel X Nails (Boston)

We mask to fit in, to stay safe, to be seen—or to disappear. These masks help us navigate the world, shaping how others perceive us and how we perceive ourselves. But with every layer we add, do we lose a piece of what lies beneath? When does a mask stop being protection and start becoming our identity? This set took 5 hours to sculpt :) I wanted to portray masking not just as concealment, but as a reflection of survival, adaptation, and identity. Each face carries a different mask, representing the ways we shift, hide, and transform to exist in the world. Some masks protect, some deceive, and some become so ingrained that we forget what’s underneath. Some tools I used: - @functionofvex Raw Minerals Static Palette & aura melt palette for all the colors & shading. Fun gory claw & teeth set for my mans hehehe 🦷 felt very nice to do whatever I wanted with this set. Used real bearded dragon molt encapsulated, lots of sculpting and carving gel, & bloooooooood 🩸. Complete with stitches, gauged out eyes & squid tentacle. So much funnnnn. Though I will admit, I lose my appetite every time I look at his nails while we are eating 🤣. Would you get a set like this? Be sure to cure a layer of Ceramic Matte Top Coat before going in with one of their pigment brushes to apply the aura melt palette. Floral whimsical concept set! Client wanted an earthy set filled with dark greens, browns, a touch of blue and “wet” movements. The tile nail is probably my favorite one, with each tile having its own swirl of colors while still looking cohesive. For the flowers, I wanted to mimic some grey ceramic flowers atop the earthy background. I used a nail stamp to create a broken flowery black background before layering it with green & black alcohol inks, and some yellow jelly polish from @functionofvex Raw Minerals palette (used Serpentine). To incorporate wet movements, I added lily pads and koi fish in a pond, topped with 3D clear swirls. I layered touches of Sapphire from the same fvex Raw Minerals static palette for a little blue. Lastly, I rubbed a bronzey chrome from @functionofvex heavy metals chrome palette on top of more 3D swirls to add more brown tones that shine. Nature sets are some of my favorite because I get to be “messy” by swirling colors into each other and adding all the different textures and shades of green you see in nature. Client asked for a fruit set but Valentine’s Day themed :) chocolate covered strawberry, kisses, cherries, tomatoes, blueberries and an avocado 🥑. She sent a lott of different inspo and let me freestyle based on all the styles in the inspo.
